IOWA CITY -- Iowa's second-largest credit union has opened a temporary branch in Cedar Falls as it prepares to build a permanent location.
University of Iowa Community Credit Union is operating an office at 4728 University Ave. in Cedar Falls. UICCU President Jeff Disterhoft said residents will be able to open new accounts and transact business while the credit union awaits completion of a new building.
"We are leasing space at this location while we move ahead with construction of a full-service location a few feet up the road on the northwest corner of Cedar Heights and University Avenue," Disterhoft said. "We are very excited to play an active role in the growth and prosperity of Black Hawk County. Our long term plan is to build three new full-service offices in Cedar Falls and Waterloo."
UICCU of Iowa City will be competing with the state's largest credit union, Veridian Credit Union, in its "home" territory. Waterloo-based Veridian, formerly John Deere Community Credit Union, has an office at 812 S. First Ave. in Iowa City and 704 Second St. in Coralville.
Veridian has assets in excess of $2 billion, while UICCU has assets of more than $1.5 billion.
