Vivian Catherine (Battin) Reinking
April 15,1920 - July 22, 2010
Vivian was born to Edwin (Ted) and Agnes (Persson) Battin, in rural Clayton County, near Edgewood, Iowa. She spent two years at the University of Dubuque where she earned her two-year degree in education. While there, she met Emil Reinking, who was attending Wartburg Seminary. She graduated after two years and took a teaching position in Volga, Iowa. The following year, they were married on August 23, 1940, in Dubuque. They began their married life at a parish in Marsh, Montana. Together they served 10 different parishes over 40 plus years of ministry. They then retired to Council Bluffs, where she assisted his ministry as chaplain at Bethany Lutheran Home by playing the organ for weekly church services.
Together they raised four children, Edwin (Elaine) Reinking of Richland, Wash., Dorothy (Bob) Rowe of Omaha, Neb., Allan (Maureen) Reinking of LaGrange, Wyo., and Rhoda Reinking of Portland, Ore. Another child was stillborn after a full-term pregnancy. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren, Troy (Jill) Reinking, Nicole (Mike) Hoffman, Todd Reinking, John Rowe, Matt (Missy) Rowe, Sarah (Tim) Koch, Mark Rowe, Brenda (Shane) Shiplet, Krista (Jim) McCall and Kara (Jordan) Bader.
She is also survived by sister-in-law, Bertha Battin; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; her daughter, Dorothy; husband, Bob; her husband, Emil; and her grandson, Todd.
A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cutler- O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Bayliss Park Chapel, in Council Bluffs, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor, with the Rev. Arlyn Norris officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials to a cause of your choice.
