Lauren Marie McConnell was born Dec. 19, 1971, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Jerry and Donna (Hicks) McConnell. Shortly after graduating from Newton Senior High School in 1990, she and a group of her friends moved to Iowa City. For a brief time she worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, but then enrolled at LaJames International College where she received her Beautician degree in 1996. She began a career as a beautician that would span over 20 years with Iowa Haircutting Company, Country Connection, Hair on Highland, and at the time of her death she was working at Textures. She loved her profession and her clients, who were more like family than clients. Lauren was an avid reader, loved to cook for family and friends, but most of all in her life was her family, especially her two sons! She was a good wife and excellent mom to her family.
Her family includes her two sons, Jordan and Dylan; her mother, Donna Hicks; brother, Dion McConnell, half-brother, Shane McConnell; half-sister, Tiara Draisey; and Lauren's former husband, Sam Foraker.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry McConnell.
