David Leroy McGinty, 76, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Oakland Church of the Nazarene, 3000 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ron McKee. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the church. Burial: Wilcox Cemetery, Viola, with military honors. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; children, Becky McGinty (Don Campbell) of Mount Vernon, Marilyn (George) Mantor of Marion, Larry (Karla) McGinty of Cedar Rapids, Melody (Dave) Dvorak of Viola, John (Mary) Rezac of Cedar Rapids and Shirley Heath of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Shanna (Jared), Justin (Amy), Garrett (Abby), Amanda (Steven), Victoria (Nick), Blake, Brandon (Alisha), Heather, Michelle, Kelly and Emily; great-grand-children, Preston, Sparrow, Leo, Hazel, Hunter, Andrea, Ryan, Leigha, Claire, Kyle, Jason, and Shane; and a loving extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Reta; parents; brother, Richard McGinty; and sister, Virginia Buffington.
Dave was born May 21, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Cecil McGinty. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1956. Dave married Reta (Butler) on July 4, 1956, in Grinnell. Reta passed away March 18, 2010. He then married Ruby (Rezac) on Oct. 28, 2011, in Cedar Rapids. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960.
Dave worked at Northwestern Bell /AT&T until his retirement.
"Silly Grandpa" will be greatly missed by everyone and remembered for his Donald Duck imitation and for making animal balloons.
A memorial fund has been established in Dave's memory.
