Robert G. Sullivan, 86, passed away peacefully Jan. 28, 2015, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, with his devoted wife of 64 years, Dolly, by his side.
Bob was born June 15, 1928, the eldest son of George and Susan Sullivan in Minneapolis, Minn. Bob and Dolly met and married in Lakeville, Minn., where Bob farmed the family's Century Farm. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1962, where they raised nine children and Bob had a successful career in real estate.
They retired in Johnston where they have resided since 1992.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dolly; and eight children, Julie (Patrick) Schulte of Des Moines, Michael (Stephanie) of Oklahoma City, Okla., Carrie (Michael) Thrall of Johnston, Clancy (Trish) Sullivan of Des Moines, Tim (Joan) Sullivan of Cedar Rapids, Sarah (Paul) Duwelius of Portland, Ore., Nell (Dan) Duwelius of Des Moines and Matt (Ann) Sullivan of West Des Moines. Also surviving are 24 grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Pat Sullivan of St. Paul, Minn., and Jerry (Jackie) Sullivan of Clovis, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie; his parents; his sister, Maureen Vachuska; and his daughter-in-law, Dorothy Sullivan.
Services were held Jan. 31, 2015, in Des Moines.
Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Des Moines; or Mercy Hospice, Johnston.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Iowa Methodist West, Bishop Drumm and Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
