Dennis James Vanderhei, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died from a sudden illness on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Stonebridge Church by Pastor
Robin Tyner. Burial will be at a later date at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and son, Steve, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patti; parents, Arnold and Sadie; and his brother, Dale.
Dennis James was born Feb. 14, 1947, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., the son of Arnold and Sadie Plenge Vanderhei. Dennis married Marilyn Jane Matthews on June 5, 1965, in Madison, Wis. He served in the Air Force from 1968 to 1972 and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Dennis was an electrical engineer for Rockwell Collins for 37 years, retiring in 2011.
Dennis enjoyed reading, writing letters to his family in Wisconsin, and walking his grand dog, Willie.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Foundation 2.
