Feeding birds shouldn’t be crime

Since when is it a crime to feed the wildlife (Jan. 1 news story, “Bird lover to fight nuisance threat”)?
I would much rather see bird feeders in a neighbor's yard than cars up on blocks, streets full of cars, campers covered in tarps, a storm door propped against a tree for three months (hoping someone will take it), front porches full of living room furniture as well as junk, constant barking dogs or pit bulls on chains.
I would suggest that she might move the bird feeders to the backyard to not disturb curbside view, but to chastise the woman with a nuisance charge is very unfair
Have we become an unfeeling society, and the squirrels and birds are to forage for themselves when we have taken much of their wooded area and former habitat?
I feel there is a lot of judging going on here and suggest there is more to this story. Where is the city when someone starts their mower at 6 a.m. in the summer? Or a car with an extra loud muffler? Or a car with the radio cranked up so high it vibrates as it goes down the street? Aren't these much more of a nuisance than feeding our feathered and furry friends?
