On Iowa took over The Sports Desk (sponsored by Dave Wright Subaru) on Monday with the Big Ten title game to Indianapolis, the placement of RB Rodney Coe at Iowa Western Community College and Iowa basketball's non-conference schedule.
Here's a link to the webcast.
The Big Ten has signed on for the championship football game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis through the 2015 season.
If you're a purist, this is a kick in the cup. The week before, Big Ten teams will be playing outdoors. All of them. The next week, it's indoors and sweating through undergear during warmup. But it is a primetime matchup now and the Big Ten wants a pretty picture. It will get it indoors.
Coe, a 6-3, 255-pounder, signed with Iowa in February, but academics won't allow him to enroll, so he's off to Iowa Western Community College for two seasons. Coe is a player you want. His body size and type would allow him to play, and possibly excel, everywhere on the field. He'll get a look at defensive end during his time at IWCC. That's an interesting prospect, already at 6-3, 255.
Iowa's non-conference basketball slate is hardly the clash of the titans. There are interesting games, chiefly the Creighton game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Iowa and Fran McCaffery will face the McDermotts, coach Greg and son Doug, who might be the best all-around player in the Missouri Valley Conference. A win here would boost Iowa's RPI. That might matter this year. Also, Iowa will face Clemson in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Iowa will close out its non-conference schedule with a home game against Boise State on Dec. 22. The Hawkeyes also go on the road to Northern Iowa and Iowa State.
Do a quick W-L to the schedule and you could see an 11-2. You can see it. They still have to do it.
