MARION - Bids for a new $8 million-plus elementary school in the Marion Independent School District could be let in March, according to a schedule discussed at this week's school board meeting.
The new school would be built on the site of the former Longfellow Elementary School, 2900 Eighth Avenue.
Demolition of the old school is scheduled for completion by the end of this month.
Also at Monday's board meeting, the Marion Education Association, representing the district's teachers, and the district announced plans to enter their 22nd year of non-adversarial roundtable negotiations to reach consensus on a new contract.
Both sides indicated they planned to open all articles of the current contract during negotiations.
