Alberta Mae Burley, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 22, 2016, at Heritage Specialty Care following an extended illness.
Alberta was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Lucas County to Albert and Nellie Peterson. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1942. On Feb. 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Floyd W. Burley Jr. Three daughters were born to this union: Sandra Bloomquist, Maggie (Bob) Shewry of Cedar Rapids and Karen (Mike) Nelson of Oneida, Wis.
Alberta was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Chariton and Ottumwa. Alberta loved to cook, play bingo, sew and spend time with her family. She loved gardening and fresh air.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In addition to two daughters, surviving are five grandchildren, John, Tracey, Brian, Angela and Andra; six great-grandchildren, Emi, Alex, Connor, Abby, Adam and Aiden; and her brother, Donald Peterson of Mount Horeb, Wis.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Sandra.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice, 3720 Queen Ct. SW, Suite 9, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Fielding Funeral Home, Chariton, by Pastor Brenda Crossfield. Visitation will be one hour before services. Interment: Chariton Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brian Shewry, Bob Shewry, Chris Stoneking, Mike Nelson and Alex Stoneking.
