CRAG athletes win state titles
DES MOINES - Lauren Fruehling, Hannah Westfall and Emma Hartzler of the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics were crowned all-around champions at the Optional State Championships.
CRAG also won the Level 7 team title.
Fruehling and Westfall won in Level 7, Hartzler in Level 8. Fruehling also won the bars and beam, Westfall the bars.
Samantha Falck won the vault in Level 7 and Mackie Byers and Carly Mark were placewinners.
Emma Patterson won the floor exercise and Consuelo Mendoza the vault and bars in Level 8, and Jayden Lovell and Jenna Danninger were placewinners.
Lexy Wadsworth placed in Level 9.
C.R. boxers win tuneup bouts
Bryse Reynolds and Chloe Bowar of the Cedar Rapids Boxing Club won titles earlier this month at a pair of events as they prepare for the state Golden Gloves tournament, April 12-13 in Des Moines.
Reynolds, in the 132-pound senior division, won by decision over Jorge Payan of Davenport at a bout in Independence and beat Tanner Smith of Fort Dodge by decision at a show in Fort Dodge.
Bowar, in the 190-pound female class, won by decision over Erin Gagen of the Cedar Valley club in Fort Dodge.
Benton speedway hosting Frostbuster
VINTON - Five IMCA divisions will see action Sunday, April 7, in Benton County Speedway's Frostbuster special.
IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win in their 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier.
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $500 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $400 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $250.
Mach-1 Sport Compacts also are on the card at Vinton.
Pit gates and the grandstand open at 3 p.m. Hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 4:30. Contact promoter Mick Trier, (515) 201-5526 for more information.
