Chicago man to serve 10 years for sexual abuse last January

A rape victim said Friday no woman should have to go through what she did last January when Andre White held a knife to her neck and sexually abused her twice while threatening to kill her son if she screamed.
“Andre will only be the monster who haunts my memories,” the victim said during her victim impact statement at White's sentencing in Johnson County District Court.
White, 40, of Chicago, was convicted by a jury in September on two counts of third-degree sexual abuse. Each count carries a 10-year prison term but the judge ran the terms concurrently, so he will serve a total of 10 years.
White will also be required to register as a sex offender and be on the special lifetime parole for the sexual abuse conviction.
The defense filed a motion for a new trial but 6th Judicial District Judge Paul Miller denied it before the sentencing hearing.
White declined to speak during the sentencing.
White was at the victim's residence Jan. 22 in Lone Tree when he attacked her. According to trial testimony he choked her and held a knife to her throat while he sexually abused her twice. He threatened to hurt her child if she screamed or reported the incident.
The trial in September was the second time White had been tried. White was originally charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and the first trial in July resulted in a hung jury. The prosecutor amended the charges and retried the case.
