Fire damages Iowa City duplex
IOWA CITY - An Iowa City duplex sustained an estimated $50,000 in damage in a fire Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the duplex, at 2049 and 2041 Little Creek Lane, at 10:03 a.m. Sunday and found fire visible on the front of the building, primarily on the garages of both units. Crews extinguished the exterior fire and uncovered hidden fire in the building's walls and attic spaces.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, fire officials said in a news release.
The occupants had evacuated before fire crews arrived.
