Betty Lou Ranshaw, 88, of Marengo, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Compass Memorial Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be held June 24 in North Liberty. Location and times will be announced later. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Betty is survived by her husband, Robert of Marengo; five children, Timothy M. (Heide) of Denver, Colo., Robert K. (Rosalie) of Denver, Kathleen A. Ranshaw (Karen Jameson) of North Liberty, Deborah M. Ranshaw of Tiffin and David L. Ranshaw of Marengo; five grandchildren, Jenny (Brad) Griswold, Ian (Laurie) Ranshaw, Travis Fowler, Davis Garritano and Zach (Kelsey) Ranshaw; six great-grandchildren, Emily and Billy Griswold, Addison and Abigail Ranshaw and Jennifer Lawrence and Gage Fowler; two brothers, Quinn (Norma) McBride of Huxley and Ian McBride of California; and two sisters, Joy (Jon) Gage of Franklin, Wis., and Kristin McBride of Willow Springs, Mo..
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ralph W. McBride.
Betty Lou McBride was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Liberty, Neb., the daughter of Ralph and Marie Winchell McBride. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City in 1947. She married Robert Ranshaw on June 24, 1947. She worked as a nurses' aide at Lantern Park Nursing Home, Coralville, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.
In her youth, Betty was very active in 4-H. She actively participated in her church, including choir. She was a member of the Whip-Poor-Will Women's Club in North Liberty. She enjoyed arranging flowers, gardening and collecting music CDs. Most of her time was spent with her family, keeping up with her friends and tending to all of the cats on the farm.
