Overturned dump truck blocks Cedar Rapids street
No one was hurt when a dump truck loaded with rock tipped onto its side Monday afternoon in Cedar Rapids.
The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. at the corner of Sixth Street and Waconia Avenue SW. The dump truck was eastbound and trying to turn north onto Sixth Street when it tipped over, spilling rock across the roadway.
Lt. Tobey Harrison said it appeared the driver was going too fast around the corner.
One northbound lane of Sixth Street SW remained closed at 2 p.m. Harrison said a skid loader would be used to clean up the rock, before the dump truck would be towed away.
