Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason groupings in Class 3A and 4A

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Metro could have as many as three bigger schools make the boys' state basketball tournament. Or it could have as few as zero.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason groupings in Class 3A and 4A, and Cedar Rapids/Marion teams are spread around.

In 3A, Cedar Rapids Xavier and Marion are in District 8, along with Solon and Benton Community. The winner there advances to a substate final against either Davenport Assumption, DeWitt Central, Maquoketa or Mount Vernon.

In Class 4A, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Prairie and Washington are in a substate that also includes three-time defending champ Iowa City West. Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Linn-Mar are grouped together in a substate that also has Cedar Falls, Marshalltown, Waterloo East and Waterloo West.

The winners of each substate qualify for state. District winners in 3A move to a substate final, with corresponding districts being 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc.

Here are all of the postseason groupings for the biggest two classes:

CLASS 4A SUBSTATES

Substate 1 - Council Bluffs Lincoln, Council Bluffs Jefferson, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, Sioux City East, Sioux City North, Sioux City West.

Substate 2 - Ames, Des Moines North, Fort Dodge, Mason City, Urbandale, West Des Moines Dowling.

Substate 3 - Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Linn-Mar, Marshalltown, Waterloo East, Waterloo West.

Substate 4 - Bettendorf, Davenport Central, Dubuque Hempstead, Dubuque Senior, North Scott, Western Dubuque.

Substate 5 - Clinton, Davenport North, Davenport West, Iowa City High, Muscatine, Pleasant Valley.

Substate 6 - Burlington, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Washington, Iowa City West, Ottumwa, Cedar Rapids Prairie.

Substate 7 - Ankeny, Ankeny Centennial, Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines Lincoln, Newton, Southeast Polk.

Substate 8 - Des Moines East, Des Moines Roosevelt, Indianola, Johnston, Waukee, West Des Moines Valley.
