Douglas Grove Miehe, 71, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at his home in West Liberty. A memorial visitation will be Monday, Nov. 2, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. No funeral is
planned.

Doug was born July 6, 1944, in Cedar Rapids to Grover and Irene Vandeberg Miehe. He graduated from Lisbon High School and attended Iowa State University, where he met Virginia Burr. They were married in 1966 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Liberty.
Doug farmed for 44 years with his father-in-law, Lorren Burr near West Liberty.
Motor sports were always his hobbies. In the 1970s and '80s, he competed with a modified tractor in tractor pulls throughout the state. In the '80s and '90s, he had a top alcohol dragster, engaging in NHRA races in the Midwest and western United States. In more recent years, he turned to restoring classic '55 and '56 Chevys.
Doug is survived by his wife; one son, Van; daughter-in-law, Cheri; and two grandchildren, Devan and Kami of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Steve of Memphis; and mother-in-law, Zelma Burr.
Preceding him in death were his parents; granddaughter, Kylen; and father-in-law, Lorren Burr.
