Ropp, Kathleen 'Katie' Ann
Kathleen “Katie” Ann Ropp, 32, of North Liberty, died Saturday, April 3, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A reception at the Kirkwood Room will follow the committal. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Katie was born on August 2, 1977, in Iowa City, the daughter of Jerry Slezak and Judy Kelleher Slezak. She was a 1995 graduate of West High School and received a bachelor's degree in biology from UNI. On April 4, 2007, Katie married Kevin Devon Ropp in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Katie was a production scientist at Integrated DNA Technologies.
Most important to Katie was her love for Kevin, her family and her friends. Time spent camping and attending Iowa football games with friends were cherished moments. Katie's gift of creativity is evident in her homemade crafts and the fun hats that she collected. Her smile and loving embrace will be missed by those who were blessed to call her their friend.
Katie is survived by her husband, Kevin; her parents, Judy Slezak of Coralville, and Jerry (Mary) Slezak of Iowa City; her three sisters, Angela (Brandon) Courtade and Katie's twin sister, Laura Slezak, all of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Melissa (Nick) Wilson of New Lenox, Ill.; her father and mother in-law, Jake and Susie Ropp of Kalona; sisters-in-law, Wanda Ropp, Linda (Randy) Yutzy and Jolene (Aaron) Gingerich; and niece and nephews, Blake, Austin and Colton Courtade and Taylor and Cameron Gingerich.
Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Katie was a lovable, fun, caring and graceful person. She was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, Godmother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
