Peter S. Kanellis, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, where visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. David Beckman will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his son, Michael S. Kanellis of Cedar Rapids; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; and siblings, Jeanette Dyerte, Michael and George Kanellis.
Peter was born May 6, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Nick and Bess (Novak) Kanellis. He married Darlene Ann Convey on July 1, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Peter worked for Ilten's Heating and Air Conditioning in Cedar Rapids.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, VFW Post 788 and Local 125 Plumbers Pipefitters in Cedar Rapids.
Peter served in the Army in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
