Carolyn "Jean" Lawrence, 71, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Stanwood, passed comfortably surrounded by her family on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. An inurnment will be held at a later date in Stanwood Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Stanwood Union Church, 208 S. Main St., Stanwood, IA 52337 on Friday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Survivors include a son, Tim (Laurie) Simmons of Marion; daughters, Marsha (Dan) Schorg of Blairstown and Shawna Husmann of Anamosa; brothers, Ed (Rose) Simmons of Clarinda and Larry (Debbie) Simmons of Newburg, Mo.; sisters, Colleen (Joe) Hines of Blanchard and Ann (Larry) Ridnour of Gravity; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; three brothers; and three sisters.
Jean was born Sept. 26, 1945, to Roland Simmons and Hillis (Hayworth) Simmons in Clarinda, Iowa. She married Stanley Lawrence on June 3, 1967, in Corning. Jean's biggest joy in life was her family, and she prided herself on partaking in every activity and event in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives.
