Xavier eyes another successful bowling season

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Xavier boys' bowling team, coming off a strong state finish last year, is looking forward to an exceptional season.
'Our goals as a team this season is to make it back to state,” junior Andrew Millsap said. 'Individually, I want to improve my scores from last year and try to make it on varsity this year.”
Training for bowling is a bit different from training for most sports because the team has to travel to a bowling alley for practices. They spend the whole practice working on perfecting their form and getting better.
'It's great being a senior this year because we have a lot of seniors who have been bowling together for a long time,” senior Jackson Schuster said. 'We know each other's strengths and weaknesses and we motivate each other to improve every day.”
Schuster said is a great sport because there is nothing he can do to stop the other team from winning, all he can do is play better.
'I am very excited for the upcoming season to improve my skills and have fun with my teammates,” Schuster said.
Bowling is thought to be an individual sport, but it is quite the opposite. Each teammate will play 10 rounds and try to rack up as many points as possible. The points each player earns individually then goes toward the team score.
The Saints are 2-1 this year and host Prairie at May City Bowl on Friday.
