Donald "Dutch" C. Atkinson, 97, of Ryan, passed away at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
He was born March 27, 1920, at home on the farm south of Manchester, the son of Roy L. and Agnes (Burns) Atkinson. "Dutch" attended rural country school and graduated from Lamont High School in 1938. After graduation, he farmed near Masonville and eventually settled on a farm near Ryan.
On April 30, 1944, Dutch was united in marriage to Marilynn Worm at Golden Church near Ryan. This union was blessed with three children. Together they farmed near Ryan. Dutch also drove a school bus for West Delaware and was a Delaware County supervisor for 10 years.
Dutch enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling and spending winters in Florida with Marilynn for many years. He loved living on the farm, and he mowed his lawn until he was 95. His true love was his family, and he was a wonderful grandfather.
Survivors left to cherish his memories are his wife of 73 years, Marilynn of Manchester; three children, Gary (Elaine) Atkinson of Ryan, Sharon (Gary) Childers of Durango, Iowa, and Don (Marilyn) Atkinson of Manchester; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Velma Atkinson of Edgewood; and many nieces and nephews.
Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Agnes Atkinson; and eight brothers and sisters.
