Anti-abortion group appealing Iowa campaign finance ruling

A group that opposes abortion rights will continue its challenge to Iowa's new campaign finance law.

Iowa Right to Life has filed notice it will appeal a decision by U.S. District Judge Robert Pratt to uphold the law requiring outside groups to get approval from their boards for political spending and to disclose it to regulators and the public.

Pratt ruled the law increases the public's right to know while protecting free speech. It came after the U.S. Supreme Court opened the door for greater involvement by corporations and unions in elections.

Iowa Right to Life argues the rules are too burdensome and could chill its ability to speak out in favor of candidates who share its opposition to abortion. The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the appeal.
