Video 1 - Quick on injuries: RB Jordan Canzeri and TE George Kittle have a chance to play this week.
Topics: Running back depth chart, C Tommy Gaul and G Austin Blythe, more on Blythe, O-line played well.
Video 2 - Whoops, I included a couple from . . . never mind.
Topics: UM ground game, best game for QB Jake Rudock and the OL, kick return unit, more kick return unit, OT Brandon Scherff a semifinalist for the Lombardi, the Maryland handshaking incident.
Does KF ever feel as though he's in total control of his team's behavior?
Video 3 - Here, the topics are a general question about underclassmen. Then, the Jake Rudock pass to Tevaun Smith. For a lot of offenses around the country, it's a routine play. For Iowa's offense, man, we all have certainly marveled at this play. It was a good play, it showed brilliant timing and probably showed what the emphasis was during the bye week.
I asked about the WR corps and how it's able to keep re-making itself. I asked about Andre Harris, who was absent last week. In light of recent news, I wanted to make sure there wasn't a departure. Ferentz said he was hurt.
And then a good breakdown on Minnesota's rush offense.
Video 4 (below) - Question on playcalling. I asked about Drew Ott's transformation. Last year at this time, he was coming off the field on third down. Now, he's one of the Big Ten leaders in sacks and TFL.
There's a question about Minny TE Maxx Williams. He's a very good player.
We have our yearly punt return question. Your answer is the rules. College lets everyone track the returner. The NFL limits gunners. KF prefers the NFL way, but he doesn't see that rule changing.
Iowa's punter is up in the air. After he muffed a snap last week, I don't think Dillon Kidd punted again. Probably Connor Kornbrath.
Talk, talk, talk. Boom:
Did Coach Davis call the plays against Northwestern?
COACH FERENTZ: This past weekend, you're talking about? He's called them ever since he got here. Did you hear something I didn't hear? Was it someone from above calling the plays? (Laughter) psychic. Rosie the Fortune Teller. That's good.
I liked this question a lot. I didn't ask it, but wish I did. It was the rumor of the weekend.
I tried to explain to everyone what I was seeing on the Iowa sideline. Brian Ferentz is the OL coach. He's not involved in the offensive huddles on the sidelines, not usually. He wasn't at all on Saturday. He did talk to Rudock in pregame and did have some sort of playcard. My guess there is that he went over the 'check with me” runs that Iowa has embedded in its offense. They do that a lot.
I didn't notice Kirk Ferentz involved in the offensive huddle anymore than he has been. I noticed nothing different on the sidelines as far as protocol goes. There was nothing visible that led me to believe that OC Greg Davis didn't call the plays this weekend. I'm certain he did. It's just Iowa's offense executed, and so, no, it couldn't be Davis' playcalling, right?
That said, they all do wear headphones. I don't think Rosie the Fortune Teller needs them, however.
