City should abide by Iowa DOT rules

I find it interesting that the City of Cedar Rapids feels it does not have to abide by the Department of Transportation rules regarding traffic cameras and the city is primarily operating the cameras in the interest of safety of the public.
I wonder if any of the city officials ever drive on Interstate 380? I do frequently and drive the speed limit. I do notice many vehicles hit the brakes just before the cameras, and they speed back up to over the speed limit when past the range of the camera.
A few months ago on a local radio program, the host stated that many of the auto dealers in the area consider the tickets received as a business expense when customers drive high performance vehicles on I-380.
Also, on a recent radio program, Mayor Ron Corbett said it was too dangerous for the police to be doing traffic stops on I-380. This saga seems to go on and on.
Why doesn't Cedar Rapids admit the cameras are for revenue? Then in the interest of safety, use police patrols on I-380 and ticket the other violators as well.
