Jereldine R. Vernon, 83, of Dubuque, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 8, 2018, at her home. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jeri was born on Sept. 2, 1935, the daughter of Howard Monroe and Margret Ruth (Heasty) Carroll, on a farm in Cedar County. After she graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1953, she married Donald D. Leuenberger on June 18, 1954. They later divorced in 1977. While living in Cedar Rapids, Jeri worked for Mercy Hospital and Cherry-Burrell.
On Sept. 2, 1979, she married James B. Vernon, and they moved to Dubuque in 1985. Jeri was then employed at Finley Hospital in Dubuque for over 20 years.
Survivors include her son, Robert (Maureen) Leuenberger; three grandchildren, Erica (Zachary) Huk, Reece Leuenberger and Chelsea Leuenberger; two great-grandchildren, Walter and Eleanor Huk; sister, Patricia (Jim) Grossie; daughter-in-law, Teresa Leuenberger; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Rick D. Leuenberger; and parents.
Memorials may be directed to Dubuque Rescue Mission, Dubuque Regional Humane Society or Salvation Army in memory of Jeri.
