Leonard Joseph Carney passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City with his family by his side at the age of 74 years.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Judy, of Parnell; three children, Brett (Jen) Carney of Parnell, Carman (Steve) Meade of Olathe, Kan., and Bartt (Jane) Carney of Centerville; 11 grandchildren: a brother, Marvin Carney of Marengo; two sisters, Donna Grimm of Cedar Rapids and Shirley (Dean) Stoddard of Williamsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Pat Carney; and a brother-in-law, Bennie Grimm.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, where there will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Parnell. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Parnell Youth Baseball Program. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
