Ted Martin Held, 82, of Ingram, Texas, passed from this life on Friday, April 24, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas.
Ted was born April 24, 1933, in Emporia, Kan., to Pedro Theodore Held and Frieda Hayworth Held. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and proudly served his country while being stationed in Japan. After being honorably discharged from the service, he attended and graduated from Emporia State College in 1960. On May 20, 1961, Ted married his wife of 53 years, Vera Haikala, in Las Vegas, Nev. Ted worked as a metrologist for North American Aviation and Rockwell International before retiring from Abbott Laboraties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Frieda Held; sister, Cleodora Held; and grandson, James Clinton LeHew.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Vera Held; children, Gary Held, Lynn LeHew and Cheryl Young; sister, Louise Winn; and grandchildren, Grace Major, Joseph Held, Anna Held, Faith Held, Ray Jonathon LeHew, Thomas Kenneth LeHew, Ted Martin LeHew, David Quinton LeHew and Sarah Young.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the main chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas. Interment will be held at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
