Young, Kathryn A. (Bain)

Kathryn A. (Bain) Young, 78, of Crosslake, Minn., died at her home on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crosslake Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Kate Stangl officiating. A second service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at First Presbyterian Church of Marion, with the Rev. Dr. Howard Chapman officiating. Interment will be at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Memorials are preferred to Crosslake Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church of Marion.

Kathryn was born April 19, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Clara (Woodburn) Bain. Following high school, she attended Iowa State University in Ames, where she received her bachelor's degree in education. In 1969, she continued her studies at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where she earned her master's degree. She worked for 29 years as a high school counselor, a job she not only enjoyed but also did very well. Kathryn dedicated her life to guiding and mentoring teens.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, sailing and travel.

She will be missed by her husband, George; children, Jerald (Julia) of Wayzata, Minn., James (Jodi) of Edina, Minn., and Jedediah (Wendy) of Marion; and six grandchildren, Andy, Tom, Kate, Leia, Megan, and Mallory.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
