Equal pay is topic of Iowa Rep. Murphy’s second 1st District ad

Apr. 28, 2014 6:25 pm
DES MOINES - State Rep. Pat Murphy's second ad in his bid for the Democratic nomination for Congress is set to hit broadcast and cable television Tuesday.
In the 30-second spot, Murphy, one of five candidates seeking the Democratic nomination in Iowa's 1st District, talks about his wife, Terry, a nurse 33 years, to bring up the subject of equal pay for women.
'For us, putting food on the table and raising four kids around it was always a joint effort so I know equal pay for equal work is more than a women's issue,” Murphy says in 'Joint Effort.” 'It's about middle-class families.”
Murphy goes on to say that as a state legislator he fought to pass equal pay laws and raise the minimum wage 'because paycheck fairness is what women deserve and Iowa families need.”
Democrats in the 20-county 1st District, which includes Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Cedar Falls Waterloo, will select a nominee in the June 3 primary. If no one gets 35 percent of the vote, the nominee will be determined by a convention.
