Alma L. Phillips, 93, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, Oct. 22, at Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Alma was born June 17, 1924, the daughter of Albert and Emelia (Vestby) Tukua, in Albert Lea, Minn. On Oct. 25, 1947, she was married to Jack Phillips Sr. Alma worked for Claxton Pharmacy in the 1950s, Killian's Department Store, Armstrong's Department Store and Sam's Club as a demo server. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Alma loved to knit, crochet and spend time with her granddaughters.
Survivors include her son, Jack Jr. (Connie) Phillips; three granddaughters, Erica McGaffic, Brittany Phillips and Kate Jorgensen; two great-grandsons, Savian McGaffic and Camron Jorgensen; and great-granddaughter, Emma Jorgensen.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Debbie Jorgensen; parents; brother, Ben Tukua; and seven sisters, Ila Metcalfe, Lorraine Gorman, Agnes Tukua, Evelyn Spilde, Mildred Seberson, Inez Gilbertson and Ardis Singer.
