Gladys June King, 91,
of Solon, died peacefully Sunday, July 5, 2015, at the Solon Nursing and Rehab Center. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St., where there will be a 2:30 p.m. time of remembrance. Food and fellowship will follow until 3:30 p.m. at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Iowa City.
Gladys was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Cedar County, the daughter of Norman Levi and Etta Estella (Ford) Gritton. She married Eugene King on July 20, 1971, in Oakley, Ill. Gladys was one of the first CNAs at the Solon Care Center and worked there for over 33 years. She often spoke of the many years she helped families and residents at the care center. She enjoyed dancing, fishing, listening to music, crossstitching, her dog, Angel June, and the time spent helping Gene working at the Legion.
Gladys is survived by her three stepchildren, Steve (Jane) King of Oxford, Terry (LouAnn) King of Solon and Pam (Chuck) Wilson of Cedar Rapids; three stepgrandchildren, Stephanie (Clay) Melton, Danielle King and Austin Wilson; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Adam, Trinity, Sophia and Stella; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Greenwell of Cookville, Tenn., and Bertie Davidson of Fairfield; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; her sisters and brothers, Ivy Hennings, Ethel Safley, Vella Dickinson, Alberta Gritton, Warren, Walter, Harry, Vearl, Howard and Albert Gritton.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the years of support provided to Gladys by her niece. Helen Lumpa. In addition, the family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care that Gladys received during her stay at the Solon Care Center.
