Three killed in crash on Interstate 380

Three people were killed in a collision on Interstate 380 early Tuesday morning.
According to highway patrol crash reports, at about 3:40 a.m. the driver of a 2003 Cadillac, Jordan Dietrich, 21, of Victor, was driving south in the northbound lane on I-380 near the Swisher and Shueyville exit.
As Dietrich neared another vehicle, a 2007 Toyota, he lost control of his vehicle and swerved onto the east shoulder, according to reports. At the same time, the driver of the Toyota attempted to swerve onto the east shoulder of the northbound lane to avoid the Cadillac, reports state. This resulted in the two vehicles colliding head on, according to the report, with the Cadillac coming to rest in the median and the Toyota stopping on the east shoulder. Those inside the Toyota were Djumapili Shabani, 26, of Cedar Rapids, and Furaha Nyabitanga, 22, of Iowa City.
Dietrich, Shabani, and Nyabitanga were all killed in the crash.
The collision remains under investigation.
