Luella Maxine Bixler, 98, of Clarence, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence, by the Rev. David Mears. Burial: Clarence Cemetery. Visitation: 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 9, 1915, in rural Lisbon, the daughter of Oscar and Mae (Reasland) Mohn. Luella married Everett Bixler on Nov. 30, 1946, in Lisbon. He died Aug. 13, 1986. Before her marriage, Luella was employed by various agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Rock Island Arsenal. She was a homemaker and worked part-time as a secretary for a local attorney and as bookkeeper for her husband's trucking business.
The family would like to thank the staff at Clarence Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Luella.
Survivors include a son, Douglas (Mary) of Clarence; a daughter, Cheryl Droste of Goose Lake; grandchildren, Craig (Kelly) Bixler, Merideth Bixler, Lynn Bixler and Maria (Chris) Darnell; and great-grandchild, Raigan Darnell.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Droste; and son-in-law, Tom Droste.
