Severson, Mary S.
Mary S. Severson, 93, a long time resident of Marion, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by Father Rod Allers. The family will greet friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann “Sam” Nielsen of Des Moines; a son, John (Lisa) Severson of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer; a grandson; one brother; and two sisters.
Mary was born July 27, 1916, in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. She graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1935, and married Palmer Severson on Aug. 26, 1946, in Lansing, Iowa. They lived most of their lives in Marion. Palmer died April 20, 1981. Mary worked at the Boston Store for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary's memory.
