Donald J. Mesch, 78, of Hiawatha, died unexpectedly at Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017. A Hawkeye party for Don will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Please wear your favorite Hawkeye attire.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Shelly, Darren (Joan), Sandy, Doug (Christine), Terry (Bonnie), Rod (Shela) and Lisa; 14 grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia, Velva (Eldon) and AnnaBelle; two brothers, Duane (Cathie) and Darwin (Jane); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Nick; niece, Holly; and brother-in-law, Lloyd.
Don was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Hopkinton, Iowa, son of Nicholas and Hattie (Benter) Mesch. He graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1956. Don was enlisted in the Navy from 1956 to 1959. He worked for Goss International, retiring in 2000. Don enjoyed camping, being outdoors and loved sports.
