The Nov. 13 guest editorial by Anthony Gaughan 'Five things that explain Trump's stunning election night victory” seems incorrect to me in several areas.
1. Silent trump vote
Clinton's 3-point lead was within the margin of error, not a winning lead as was portrayed by the media. Clinton's poll standings didn't vary much before or after the FBI announcement and later retraction.
2. Celebrity beat organization
Trump had been in the public eye for 30 years. Clintons' have been in the public eye since before 1978, 38+ years.
3. Populist revolt against immigration and trade
For eight years, we have been forced to accept President Barack Obama's unconstitutional moves in these areas (ignoring immigration laws and using executive orders to bypass Congress on trade and treaties). At least half the country didn't agree with that.
4. Outsider against insiders
Banks, hedge funds, government (IRS, EPA, VA) and the media have worked against the middle class.
5. America, the divided
We have always been divided and that's good: checks and balances. The fact that voters not only elected Trump but also kept Republican majorities in the House, Senate, and added governorships and more state representatives, might be the best evidence that balance needs to be restored without the drumbeat of political correctness, regulation and economic stagnation.
