C.R. Kernels drop a 4-2 toughie at Quad Cities

DAVENPORT — Anthony Hermelyn went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI as Quad Cities knocked off the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 4-2, in Midwest League baseball Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Quad Cities has taken two of the first three games of this four-game series, which concludes Thursday night at 7:05.
Starting pitcher Jose Hernandez (1-2) won his first game of the season for QC with a fine seven-inning stint. The right-hander allowed nine hits but gave up just two runs.
Adam Whitt threw two hitless relief innings for the save, his fifth.
Kernels starter Miles Nordgren (3-4) threw a complete game in suffering the loss. He allowed 11 hits in eight innings, walked one and struck out nine.
Luis Arraez went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Kernels (40-36 overall, 4-3 in the Midwest League's second half). The game lasted just two hours and 12 minutes.
