Hinson: Pro-family policies and less government
State Rep. Abby Hinson

Today I am asking for your vote to send me to Congress to represent Iowa's 1st Congressional District. I live in Marion with my family and currently serve as a state representative in the Iowa House. Before that, I was a news anchor on KCRG. I grew up in Iowa, and I am proud to be raising my two boys, Max and Jax, here with my husband, Matt.
I'm running because I'm truly worried about the direction the country is with a U.S. House led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The bickering and dysfunction we see in Washington on a daily basis is unacceptable. We need new leaders in Washington who know how to solve problems, build consensus across party lines and get things done. When I go to Washington, my only boss will be the taxpayers of this district, not special interests.
Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer's policies are not right for Iowans. She has called Medicare for All the only thing that makes sense right now. That plan would close over 50 rural hospitals in Iowa. I believe in making sure we always cover people with preexisting conditions and should make targeted fixes to our health care system, such as banning surprise medical billing and decreasing administrative costs.
Congresswoman Finkenauer wants to increase taxes at a time when we need economic growth now more than ever. I'd work to make the tax cuts passed by Republicans permanent. She believes the government is the solution to every problem; I believe in smaller government and more transparency.
It's time for new leaders who will put people before politics. I'm ready to tackle the issues that really matter to Iowa families - reforming our broken health care system, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, securing our border and putting money back in the pockets of hardworking Iowans. I'd also work to ban former members of Congress from becoming lobbyists. Simply put, I'll work to clean up Finkenauer and Pelosi's Washington.
If you like how things are going in Washington, D.C., extreme partisanship, infighting and do-nothing politicians only concerned about reelection, then I'm not your candidate. If you believe in less government and pro-family policies that lower taxes and keep our neighborhoods safe, then I am your candidate. It would be the honor of a lifetime to represent you in Congress, and I humbly ask for your vote.
Ashley Hinson is a Republican candidate for U.S. House in Iowa's 1st District.
