Catching up on recruiting: CB Torrey Campbell

(I'm behind on recruiting. I have two more of these. Still need to track down Jordan Walsh. Maybe this week. Welcome to game week, by the way.)
Torrey Campbell spent a week in Iowa this summer. He really liked it.
The Naples, Fla., prep ran in the World Junior Track and Field meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. This happened to coincide with his recruitment as a cornerback for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
It worked out nicely. Campbell got a taste of Iowa and he liked what he saw.
"The people there are crazy, in a good way. That helped a lot," said Campbell, a 5-foot-11, 180-pounder who committed to Iowa earlier this month. "I just felt right at Iowa. My mom loved it, so that was good."
Campbell picked the Hawkeyes over Tennessee and 11 other offers, including Wisconsin, Purdue and Kansas. Iowa recruited Campbell as a cornerback, even though he's played very little defense as a prep.
As a sophomore, Campbell played running back at Palmetto Ridge High School and rushed for more than 1,000 yards. Last season, he transferred to Barron Collier. He played running back, rushing for around 700 yards, but by the end of the year, he found a comfort level on defense.
"I've never actually a straight-up defensive guy. I played a little bit here and there," he said. "When we played a team with a lot of speed, they would put me in there. That's how it worked out."
He is looking for an expanded role on defense this season.
"Absolutely," he said. "I'm a corner, but I will help out at running back."
Campbell's speed and potential at corner is worth mining, Iowa coaches believe.
The speed is documented. He finished second in the Florida state meet in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.12 seconds. He might've qualified for more events, but he suffered an injury in regionals and could only qualify for state in the hurdles.
Campbell was satisfied in his effort in a 23-2 loss to South Fort Myers in a preseason game on Friday night.
On his Twitter account, Campbell wrote "Had my pre-season game tonight, shutdown the #1 WR in FL??? Thank you god! #gohawkeyes still gotta lot of work to do... zzzzz."
