Letter: Tax bill will help the middle class

In response to Steven Patterson's Nov. 30 letter, 'Waiting to speak with Congressman Blum,” I also tried to contact Congressman Rod Blum's office after his claims on two different days.
Congressman Blum's Washington, D.C. and local offices answered immediately both times. I stopped by his office a few weeks ago and spoke to his staff within 15 minutes regarding clarification on proposed policy issues.
Regarding tax reform, the writer fails to mention the ways the bill helps the middle class, doubling the standard deduction and lowering rates, making the loss of the deductions he mentioned irrelevant.
If one looks at the tax bill and allow themselves to be momentarily detached from the biased mass media, they would see that the GOP bill has top wage earners paying more of the overall tax load moving forward, with the middle class receiving a higher percentage of their income taxes returned back to them.
The proof will be in the paychecks next year.
