The 'Grandslammers' at Perfect Game Field

Thursday, July 22nd was an unforgettable night once again in the lives of some Cedar Rapids baseball players at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Perfect Game Field.

A baseball team comprised of special needs children and young adults played their final game of the season in left field while family and friends cheered from the pavilion decks above them.

Every Thursday night during the summer this group of enthusiastic young people called the "Grandslammers" plays baseball at Cleveland Park in southwest Cedar Rapids. For the past 10 years they have celebrated the end of the season by playing their final game at Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Kernels. The game was followed by a fun filled picnic at the stadium. This is just one more very special community event that is welcomed to the stadium each year.
