Reynolds school reopening plan needs another look

Iowa has an opportunity to watch and learn from other states opening schools early and modify their existing opening plan based on what has worked in other states. For the first six to eight weeks it may be advantageous to teach only three or four core courses; language arts, math, science and history. Teachers not certified in those core courses could team teach with those who are plus serve as a pool for the inevitable shortage of substitute teachers that will be needed. This will likely ensure having a certified educator leading every classroom. Toward the middle or end of October schools could open up more subject areas if the pandemic improves and move closer to being able to provide their full curriculum. Early insightful planning may lead to better end results. I was an administrator, teacher and coach in Iowa for 32 years.
