Game Time League opens Wednesday

NORTH LIBERTY -- Quick, name the women's college basketball team with the most Game Time League participants.

Iowa Hawkeyes, in a slam dunk, right?

Twelve players from the University of Northern Iowa are on GTL rosters as the league schedule kicks off Wednesday at the North Liberty Community Center.

Fifty players form the six teams that will play on Mondays and Wednesdays through the majority of the summer.

The season consists of eight regular-season games. The first round of playoffs is July 14, semifinals are July 19, with the championship July 21.

Nine Hawkeyes are signed up, including Kachine Alexander (Culver's of Coralville/Vinton Merchants) and Big Ten Freshman of the Year Jaime Printy (Coralville Hy-Vee). Those teams face each other at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the old gym.

Jade Rogers, formerly of Cedar Rapids Kennedy and a freshman-to-be at Iowa, joins Alexander on the Culver's/Vinton Merchants squad.

The rosters also feature seven players from Coe College and three high-school players.
