Political ads are negative, skewed

It has occurred to me that the reason for negative political ads and mudslinging is quite simply the accepted way to do it these days.
If a candidate has not done enough good things to talk and brag about then the next best thing is to ridicule and berate your opponent.
If a candidate has some ghosts in the closet or has not always done what is best for the constituents then attack the opponent.
This is what I have been listening to on our local television stations for the past month or so and it is building momentum with every passing day.
This is akin to the theory of lawyers to use the smoke and mirrors system. Cloud the issues enough and you may just win your case. Divert the attention from the facts.
It would be refreshing to see a political ad that didn't run someone else down. I have taken the time to research some of the assertions that candidates have made about others. It is amazing how often the information is skewed or even just plain not true. You can take your choice of either party the results will be the same. Given these facts what good are the ads if they are false or at best slanted? It makes it difficult for me to view the local stations.
