Freeman, Ione K.
Ione K. Freeman, 92, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Heather Hayes. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include children, Douglas Freeman of Culver City, Calif., Gordon Freeman of Marion, and Richard (Penny) Freeman and Ronald (Marie) Freeman, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Ann Freeman of Marion; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Freeman, Gordon Horne, Adam, Kyle and Ashley Freeman, Megan Trumm and Lauren Freeman, and Audrianne and Garrett Freeman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and brother, Lloyd Knain.
Ione was born May 8, 1918, to Joseph and Ida Knain in New Salem, N.D. She moved to Cedar Rapids after World War II to pursue a teaching career with her husband, James W. Freeman in the Cedar Rapids School System. She was a past secretary for the Cedar Rapids Education Association, a previous member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Ione enjoyed a good game of bridge or golf along with gardening. She was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and baseball games. Ione was expert at needlepoint with numerous beautiful creations.
