Good vibe in Wellington Heights

To the editor:
When I first walked to work five years ago I took the most direct route down Bever Avenue, but it felt a little sketchy so I started skirting around it. After reading all the articles about the exciting things happening in Wellington Heights, I thought I'd give it another try. What a difference!
I had so much fun walking home. I had four conversations with the friendly folks on my route, some asking questions and some gently teasing me about my Nordic walking sticks. I'm sure I was quite the sight - one funny fellow asked if I was off my meds. He asked if I was all right, like he was really worried about me! It made me wonder if these same citizens would be received as warmly if they walked through my neighborhood with a big backpack and two sticks. I hope so.
