To the editor:
The Iowa State Black Caucus will be conducting the second series to a forum that was held on July 18, following the democratic fundraiser held on July 17. The objective of the forum was to address concerns related to the black community in the Linn County area, as well as to introduce the various politicians seeking office.
At the first forum, residents identified concerns that have adversely impacted the daily lives of their families. There were six major concerns underscored for solutions: gun violence, possible need for a police citizens review committee, mental health/substance abuse, jobs, housing and education.
The objective of the upcoming meeting will be to review strategies and solutions as to how to most effectively address these concerns. I encourage clergy, elected officials, community leaders, educators and service providers to join community members in discussing strategies that will positively affect the lives of our children and the future of our community. The forum will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Four Oaks, The Bridge, 2100 1st Ave NE. Hope to see you there.
