Former college basketball stars Matt Gatens of Iowa and Royce White of Iowa State will work together to try to win a million dollars next month.
The two will join former Hawkeye player Anthony Tucker and some other ex-Big Ten players to play for a team called the B1G Bad Boys in The Basketball Tournament, an open-application, single-elimination event that will pay $1 million to the winning team.
The Bad Boys will play in the Chicago Regional of the tourney on July 17-19. The semifinals and championship game will be in New York on Aug. 1-2.
Other members of the Bad Boys include former Wisconsin players Mike Brusewitz, Kammron Taylor and Jordan Taylor, and former Illinois player Shaun Pruitt.
Gatens and White both concluded their collegiate careers in 2012. Gatens was a four-year player at Iowa and is the school's No. 8 all-time leading scorer. He played professionally in Turkey last season.
Another former Hawkeye, Jarryd Cole, will play for the Sideline Cancer team in the Northeast Regional. Cole played in France last season.
