The 'un-dinosauring' of the Hawkeyes

You've seen the players see the sneak peek of Iowa's alternative uniforms for the Nov. 14 night game at Kinnick Stadium against Minnesota. Friday, you saw what the players saw.

And it wasn't a whole lot.

Black uniforms with gold numbers and mostly a silhouette.

It wasn't much and was probably a little more of a tease than anything, but that's all the players know, too, so don't feel too badly. Also, this is part of some of the un-dinosauring of the Iowa program that a lot of you have wished for. Let's not look a gift helmet in the facemask, no?

One thing to remember, these are the uniforms for that game (I saw some of you play with the contrast on Twitter and the Illuminati is watching), but these are not the helmets. So, chuck that bit of sleuthing.

I really don't think you'll see the finished product until Nov. 14. There might be some leakage through players' Instagram or Facebook, but I don't think they'll even see them until that morning. Maybe they'll come out in them and cheer for Hawkeye wrestling that afternoon in Kinnick (ICE WRESTLING!!!!!) against Okie State.

A few other note type items:

— There is a new cell tower going up between the old football building and the baseball complex. I'm don't know if that's to help with the black hole that is Kinnick cell reception, but there that is. It's not terribly tall.

— More permanent lights have been installed in Kinnick. You'll notice the poles on one side of the press box. Remember the open spots in the railings above the press box? Those are now filled with lights. Sorry no pics. KCRG-TV9 reporter Mark Carlson is efforting.

— I saw a few of the banners going up yesterday outside of Kinnick. There is one of Adrian Clayborn carrying a football in a road uni, so you know that's 'punt safe' 2009 Penn State. I also saw a Calvin Jones and, of course, Hayden Fry. I didn't see the hospital side of the stadium.

— The water tower still is unpainted Huffhinds.
